Wood: Pallet lounge set
Ramon made a pallet lounge set!
We decided we want a lounge set for the back deck. We already have a bench in the front of the house made from pallets and we’re really enjoy sitting on that. So I (Ramon) went outside and got some measurements and came up with this mock up.
There are some things I would want to change from the mock up but it gave me a good idea of the space.
So on June 19th 2020 the pallets came in.
A day later the pillows came in.
Actually building it
The same day I prepared the backrests and used the access blocks to raise the seat a little bit but not as much as a whole nother layer.
While I was at it I decided to lay out the rest of the pallets as well to get a feel for the size and trying to find an good solution for attaching the blocks together.
Pretty happy with how it’s coming along. I did already see some altercations I want to make to the initial design but I will figure those out as I go.
A day later I found some time to work on the project and decided to trim down some planks to close the tabletop.
The problem solving
I had a slight problem with accessing my outside water tap as you can see here.
Since I don’t want to move it I decided to make a little door in the back rest. So I got myself a hinge and added some crap from a previous build for blocking on the back. When there is a pillow against it you don’t even notice.
Oiling!
Next up: I tried out the oil I got on some of the loose pieces of the tabletop. I’m really pleased with how it’s picking it up.
After that I oiled the outsides of the table. Just watching this oil sink in I’m already please and it was definitely worth all the sanding.
After that it's simple: sand some more, oil some more, put the pillow on it, and done!
