Soap making: first attempt!

First attempt at making soaps!

The Netherlands is in lockdown, due to the corona crisis. So we're at home, doing nothing. Or are we?

Of course we're not, we're doing things! For instance, on January 9th we got a kit in to make our very own soaps. And the process turned to be quite easy. Basically what you do is:

  • Get some melt & pour soap (clear or opaque, what you like)
  • Melt the soap - either in the microwave or on the stove
  • Add colors (we use mica powders) and scents (we use essential oils)
  • Mix it, but not for too long. Otherwise your soap will cool down and you can't do anything with it anymore
  • Pour the soap into your silicone molds
  • Wait 45 minutes
  • Demold & done!

Since we like to use different colors, we decided to mix the colors in different plastic cups. And then we just decided to try some stuff!

The first thing we tried is making the owls, which you can see in the photos below. The mold we got from Amazon.com. It turned out to be very simple and we still like the result!

Attempt #2

The next day, we decided to try some more stuff. Mostly: mixing colors and making more interesting soaps. For this, we used the simple rectangled mold we got with the kit. The results you can see in the pictures. In order, the soaps are:

  • R2D2 soap by Ramon
  • River soaps (colors inspired by our cat, River) with orange smell by Eveline
  • Coffee soap by Ramon (with actual coffee in it and coffee beans on top!) and green tea soap (with actual green tea in it!) by Eveline
  • Galaxy soaps by Eveline
  • Galaxy soaps by Ramon (yes, we both wanted to try that)

Really cool, right?!
