Resin #4: New molds!

We have new molds (and broke some).

Ladies and gentlemen, we have new stuff! And therefor, we have new things to do.

Specifically, we got in some new molds and some new inks. And yes, it was loads of fun.

New stuff!

So what did we get in? Well, we got in a new mold for a jar with a screw on top and a mold for cat ghost earrings. Also, we ordered a transparent, ultramarine ink, a new black alcohol ink and glow in the dark powder.

If you want to see all the stuff we used, you can now go check out our new Stuff page, where we index all the stuff we use (and how you can work with them)!.

On that page, you can now find both the resins we have used. In the previous projects, we used a 'giethars', but we thought it cured very slowly. So we switched to a new one, which cures way faster. In stead of waiting a week (seriously) for it to harden, we could now demold the morning after. Way better!

What we made

So what did we make this time? You can see the pictures in the gallery below, but here's a description:

Resin coasters (by Ramon). Ramon used a clear resin base and just went to town with all the alcohol inks and the ultramarine ink. As you can see, that worked out great! Resin, coaster Resin, coaster

The third coaster is made by Eveline. I tried to keep the rim black and the rest white with black and colored alcohol inks. Also worked out great, I think. However, I did learn we need to use mold release in the future, because I broke the mold by demolding it. So sad.

Next up are the cat ghost earrings Eveline made. I tried to make the eyes and the outter rim black, but I didn't wait long enough to poor the rest over. But the rest of it is all glow in the dark (and yes, it works). Isn't that awesome?

Too bad I also broke this mold though (goes to cry in a corner).

Ramon and I also had a go at boxes and jars. Eveline made the box below. The goal was to make a red upper part and swith to white below. I think it came out great!!

Ramon did the jar you see below. Like the coasters, he used a clear base and went to town with all the inks. The end result is very, very cool!

Resin jar

And after all that, we had some resin left. Since you can't keep it after it's mixed up, we decided to fill up our TARDIS & Dalek mold. So here you go, leftover TARDIS'ses and Daleks!

Lessons learned

Well basically: USE MOLD RELEASE. We're gonna go order some. And new molds.

Sigh.
